Conductive Keratoplasty
Have you enjoyed GREAT vision your whole life? Suddenly in your early 40's you noticed that you have become dependent on reading glasses. Do you hate taking on and off those reading glasses? Do you wish you could get rid of those reading glasses?
With Conductive Keratoplasty you CAN GET RID OF THOSE READING GLASSES!
Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK, is one of the newest refractive surgical procedures to treat presbyopia. Presbyopia is one of the most common changes in vision that everyone will experience. Most people by age 40 will notice a decrease in near vision and everyone by age 50 will be affected.
Until now, the only treatment for presbyopia was glasses, either readers or bifocals, or monovision contact lenses. These treatment options work fine but you have to keep up with glasses and continually change contact lenses.
CK safely changes the surface of the eye allowing you to gain better near vision and decrease your dependence on glasses!

How does CK work?
|
 |
Conductive Keratoplasty uses radiofrequency (RF) applied by a tiny Keratoplast tip to gently reshape the cornea. |
 |
When the cornea becomes steeper, the eye becomes more nearsighted. This nearsighted change allows the eye to focus in at near. |

Usually only one eye is treated to create what is known as Monovision or Blended Vision . This occurs when one eye sees well at a distance and one eye sees well at near. Because you use both eyes together, the brain blends the 2 images so you end up with great distance and great near vision and this are no longer completely dependent on glasses!
There is no cutting or lasers involved, CK is safer than other refractive procedures! The procedure only takes about 3 minutes per eye and the results are instant. |

Am I A Candidate?
As a general rule, if you have had good vision your whole life but now need glasses to read with, you're a perfect candidate for CK.
To make sure you are a good candidate for CK, you need to have a screening exam. At this exam your vision will be checked with and without correction. A full eye exam and ocular history will be performed. If you are found to be a good candidate, a loose lens test will be performed to give you a good idea what life would be like after having the procedure.
A lot of presbyopic patients have worn monovision contacts. If you have worn monovision before and have adjusted to it then you already have a good feel for what life will be like after CK. If you have never worn monovision, then we will place a contact on your non-dominant eye. You will need to wear this contact for 2 weeks so you will know what it will be like to have blended vision day in and day out.
To schedule your CK screening today, call us at 318-212-3937 .
There are some contraindication's for having CK. Please contact our office today to find out if you are a candidate. |

What to Expect
The day of the procedure you will be given an oral sedative to help alleviate your anxiety. You will then be taken to the CK room and relax on the procedure table. Drops will be placed in the operative eye for anesthesia. A small speculum is then placed in your eye to keep your eye open for the procedure.
A marker is then placed on your cornea to guide your treatment. Depending on the amount of treatment, the procedure will take anywhere from 3-5 minutes. The speculum will then be removed and antibiotic and steroid drops will be placed in your eye. You will be sent home with some comfort, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops.
You may experience some dryness and irritation for the first 1-2 days. You will notice an immediate improvement in your near vision, but expect some fluctuation for the first month or so. You will be able to return to work the next day although we recommend resting the day after the procedure. We will see you the day after to check how your eye is doing. |

Long Term Results
Conductive Keratoplasty is a procedure that helps turn back the hands of time . The effects of CK on the cornea are permanent but we can not stop the progressive presbyopic changes of your natural lens. Over 5-10 years, you will become more presbyopic and you will become more dependent on reading glasses as time goes on.
If you would like more freedom from your reading glasses, call us today at 318-212-3937 . |
